Night Rider

Night Rider
By Ron Rosenberg

To make major breakthroughs in your work and in your life, you need to take time away from your normal routine and just let yourself think. When you are wrapped up in the pressures of everyday life, it can be difficult to concentrate on what you have to accomplish, much less develop new ideas and approaches.

For example, when I am facing a difficult problem, one that has me banging my head against the wall, my wife will frequently suggest that I get on my bicycle and go for a ride. After protesting that I will go as soon as I solve the problem, my wife finally says something like, “No, you don’t understand – get on your bike and go now!”

The curious thing, of course, is that about ten miles into the ride, when I have finally stopped thinking about the problem, a solution pops into my head, and it’s usually an idea I hadn’t even considered before. The bicycle is a useful tool for me for general problem solving. But for the big stuff, I have a different strategy I discovered quite by accident about ten years ago.

THE POWER OF VOICE (TM)

THE POWER OF VOICE (TM)
Using Voice to Share a Memorable Message
By Norma Thompson Hollis

Norma Hollis, Speakers EtceteraOver the past decade of operating SPEAKERS ETCETERA, I have met and listened to hundreds of speakers. Some have deeply impressed me while others could not stop speaking fast enough. As I continued to work with speakers and assist them to develop their skills, certain traits began to stand out which were the mark of the most professional and effective speakers.

Speaking is an exchange of energy between the speaker and the audience. The best speakers recognize this exchange and massage it to the benefit of the audience. Good speaking energy is the appropriate combination of content and platform skills. A quality speech contains strong content that is delivered using platform skills that appeal to the audience. In this column, I will address elements of good content. Look for elements of effective platform skills in the next issue.

The elements of good content are effective whether giving a 30-second commercial, 30-minute speech or a one-hour seminar. Whenever a speaker’s mouth opens, the objective is to be heard and remembered. Here are some ways that speakers make their words memorable.

To your success!

So, Is Coaching Really Worth It?

So, Is Coaching Really Worth It?

By Jane Atkinson

I wouldn’t be surprised if you have been asking this question. More and more coaches are popping onto the scene. And more speakers are trying to make money off other speakers than ever before. Here are a few things to consider:

DO I NEED A COACH?
Maybe, maybe not. Ask yourself a few key questions. 1) Is your business where you want it to be? 2) Do you have the industry knowledge to get to where you want to go? 3) Are you focused enough to get there? I meet a lot of speakers and many of them have the drive and knowledge that it takes to get there on their own. But there’s another group that really require some insider knowledge as well as someone to hold them accountable and help them stay focused.
