Is Your Website Getting You Booked?
by Jane Atkinson
Recently I was working with a speaker whose website was about 6 years old. It had evolved and changed over the years and had a ton of information and many options for the visitor.
But even though he was getting huge amounts of traffic, the website wasn’t working. He wasn’t getting booked for speeches or selling product.
Why? His buyers were getting confused. There were too many options and as I once heard it said ‘a confused buyer never buys’.
Many of us have arrived at this same place, myself included. My old site wasn’t as streamlined as I wanted so I started from scratch and it seems to be working.
Is your site working the way you want it to? Is it getting you booked?
If not, you might be confusing your buyers and you should map out the exact process and outcomes that you desire.
Here are 4 quick checks for your website:
- Is it focused? Can your buyers tell within 15 seconds what it is you do? If you list more than 3 topics, I suspect they are confused.
- Your ‘promise’ should be clear letting your buyers know the value and outcomes right up front.
- Are you positioning as an expert or a speaker? Remember Brian Palmer’s quote from my book ‘The Wealthy Speaker’ he said ‘clients no longer want to hire speakers, they want to hire smart people who happen to speak’,
- There should be a call to action – what steps do you want them to take?
As technology becomes more complex, every once in a while, we need to stop and regroup to ensure that we’re not confusing our customers.
Happy booking!
PS: Watch for my brand new product ‘Diary of a Killer Keynote: How to Develop and Deliver a Keynote that Blows Them Away’ with Joe Calloway.
I believe this DVD will be one of most helpful tools that I ever produced and I can’t wait!

We have a brand new look!!
Check it out … we have a brand new look! I don’t know if you’ve been paying attention or not, but Fastype has slowly but surely been undergoing some “physical” changes lately. It all began when we started our bi-monthly newsletter Speak Up & Make Money! last year, then carried over to a completely new look for our website, a new logo…and now, Virtually This and That! has followed suit with a brand new look to complete the package.
Our new look is just the beginning of many changes that will be taking place over the next few months with Fastype VA Services, Inc. … exciting changes that will allow Fastype to continue to grow and expand, all while continuing to provide the same quality services we now provide to our clients, but on a broader basis. But enough about that now … you’ll have to stay tuned for future announcements.
Which Way is Your Service Flowing?
by Ron Kaufman
We all serve others.
We give internal service to colleagues and external service to customers. With service partners we work together. You might serve a manager. Servant leaders serve their teams.
Tennis begins with service. Cars are regularly serviced. And from time to time, computers need servicing, too.
There is community service, religious service, food service, civil service and military service. Prisoners are serving time. Others are serving humanity.
When you Serve you give and energy flows from you to others. That creates a vacuum, so life flows energy back to you. When you Con-serve, you put something aside so it can serve again in the future. When you Pre-serve, you protect something today so it can serve again tomorrow.
Do you Want to be a world class speaker?
by Sandra Schrift
Everything is interdependent. If you are planting a garden, you may have the right soil, but you also need some sunshine. As a speaker, you bring to your audience a way to help them bloom. You bring your good will, your good mind and your support. George Leonard, co–founder of Esalen Institute, and a martial arts master and an Akido sensei with a fifth –degree black belt encourages speakers (and others) to love people through the tough times.
So get good at some topic because it matters to you. Then move in to the zone. Your life will be amazing. This requires discipline and commitment to do what you are doing until you are good at it. What does your soul hunger for? Do you want to be a world-class speaker? Read more
Speak Up and Make Money – July 2007
http://www.myfastype.com/ezine/July_2007.htm
The July issue of Speak Up and Make Money! was a little bit late this month … hence the lateness of this post; but I have a great excuse. I just returned home yesterday morning from sunny San Diego after spending the last four days hanging out at the 2007 NSA Convention. What a turn out! As a Virtual Assistant, almost all of my contact with my clients and everyone else I meet is just that … virtual. The majority of my interaction is limited to email, instant messaging or phone conversations, so having the opportunity to spend 4 days at an event with 1,100+ speakers and a host of exhibitors and vendors has been a real treat. It was a wonderful opportunity to make lots of new connections, follow up with some long overdue face-to-face connections, meet some of my favorite vendors, and even run into a couple of my clients.
I have to say a huge “Thank you very much!” to Susan Levin of Speaker Services for letting me tag along and hang out at the Speaker Services booth. Here is a photo of Susan Levin and Jack Barnard at the booth. There aren’t many, but click here for a few more convention photos.
When the last issue of Speak Up & Make Money hit your inbox, I was just returning from another great Speaker Summit held in Los Angeles May 3-5. Susan Levin of Speaker Services and Jack Barnard outdid themselves with an outstanding program and a stellar line-up of presenters. It was an amazing weekend! The wealth of information from the summit was so good that Susan pulled in a group of her presenters and resources for a special Speaker Summit teleconference series in June … and if you missed the teleconference too, never fear … the recordings are available! Visit http://speakerservices.com/teleclasses/detail/78 to find out what you missed and how you can get your hands on the recordings.
This issue’s feature article is by Karen Susman, Speaker, Author, Coach. In her article, Twelve Questions to Ask Yourself Before a Presentation, Karen shares 12 simple questions to ask yourself before each presentation to create a more effective presentation and reduce stress.
I hope you enjoy this issue of Speak Up and Make Money! I really am interested in your feedback and comments, so please let me know what you think, as well as what you like and/or dislike about the ezine. Do you have an event coming up that you’d like me to include in the next issue? And don’t forget … for more great articles and information, visit my blog, Virtually This and That! at http://www.myfastype.com/Blog.
To your success!
Terry
