Emotional Eloquence
by Doug Stevenson
As a speaking coach, I work with speakers of all levels on their stories and speeches. I coach them on content and delivery – what I call the mechanics and the dynamics of speaking. The end goal is for my students to become more persuasive and effective speakers. My challenge has been to help them make the shift from talking at people to having a meaningful conversation. It’s the difference between persuasion and motivation vs. command and control. Persuasion is an invitation, not a command.
Speakers today, especially leaders, look out at a sea of faces that scarcely resembles the audience demographic of a decade ago. Baby boomers are starting to retire, replaced by a diverse working population made up of ethnic, generational and religious differences. In addition, people today are more demanding than ever. They live and work at satellite speed. Their time is their most precious resource and they refuse to accept boring PowerPoint presentations. They demand relevance, stimulation and honesty.

Well, it’s apparently that time of year again … “tag” time, that is. Every so often someone tags me and makes me tell the world a few unknown things about myself. And … this time, I’ve been tagged by Dina Giolitto, the Head Copy Chick at Wordfeeder.com. Make Networking Work!
by Sandy Geroux
I’ve been to many networking events where introductions are routinely done near the beginning of the meeting. Yet at most of these events, despite the awesome opportunity to make a big impression and become memorable to the group, most professionals go through a weak, unimpressive litany of what they do… and end up sounding like every other professional in their industry (and most in the room), therefore failing to make a memorable impression.
Contrast this with the Event Promoter who had such a catchy “jingle” that when he stood up to give his elevator speech, everyone in the room recited it with him! Or the Children’s Party Clown who blew a funny whistle before introducing himself, then stood up with a red nose on his face. Or the car wash/car detailing company owner who stood up and blew bubbles in the air as he introduced himself… and then gave a bottle of bubbles containing his company name and contact information to everyone in the crowd. Or the business adviser who gave out casino-style chips with the words, “Don’t gamble with your business” printed on one side and his contact information on the other.
Increase Your Bottom Line by Hiring Help
by
Multiple Streams Queen & Coach
Do you do everything yourself when it comes to running your business? Or are you like me and find it difficult to delegate to others, at least sometimes? Do you think you don’t have the money to hire help? Well, I’m going to show you how hiring help can help increase your bottom line dramatically.
Not delegating is one of the major hurdles my private clients seem to struggle with. They are doing everything themselves and are so busy with the little administrative things that they have little time to devote to their “genius” work – developing products and services for their niche and working directly with their clients. Once they’ve hired help, either a virtual assistant or an in-office assistant, and move through the growing pains of delegating and trusting that the work will get done (and might even get done faster and better than they could do it themselves), I can always sense a feeling of freedom and excitement as the space opens up for them to work on the things that are really creative and inspiring to them, instead of dealing with invoices or fixing a glitch with their web page. And very soon after, their business really starts to move forward because they have the time and focus to dedicate to increasing their product and services line, which, of course, translates into more profits.
