Sell Your Book Without Bookstores
by Fern Reiss, CEO, PublishingGame.com/Expertizing.com
In the last four weeks, one of my clients sold over 10,000 books, without ever hassling with bookstores. Here’s how your book can generate this kind of quantity sales this quickly:
Background
It all started when Stuart Ballan attended my Publishing Game Workshop. According to a Harvard Business School report, 84% of books in large US bookstores sell 2 copies or fewer each year; only 2% sell 10 or more copies in a year. In addition to these dismal statistics, Stuart was stymied by another complication: He lives in Israel, rather than the US, so marketing books in the US was sure to be more complicated for him. So Stuart decided, with my encouragement, to temporarily ignore US bookstores for his children’s book, “Who Invented Vegetables?”
Develop a Positive Belief System about Promoting YOU

When a friend of mine, Larry James, first stated, “I’m a shameless self promoter,” I laughed, thinking that his comment was funny. Then I thought for a moment, and I realized that I’m a shameless self-promoter, too. I had just never thought of my marketing approach as being SHAMELESS before that day. I’m always looking for opportunities to market my products and services.
Not only do I look for opportunities everywhere … I ACT upon them quickly too. Few marketing opportunities slip by me unnoticed. I just keep on marketing and promoting and doing whatever it takes to be successful in business.
Expert Status Desired? Speak to Groups!
by Alicia Smith
When I started building one of my early businesses – a review course to prepare people for the Texas Real Estate exam – I knew I had a great idea, but I wasn’t sure how to reach prospective students. The easiest group to identify were licensed salesmen who might be interested in getting their broker’s license. Active salespeople are required to work under a licensed broker. So I contacted the broker/manager of the largest real estate offices and offered my services to speak to their agents.
I created a flier with descriptions of 5 topics that were of interest to active agents. The brokers chose the topic and dates were set to speak to their agents at regularly scheduled sales meetings. Timely topics made being invited in easier than I imagined.

Wow! This has been such a busy, busy summer that time has just flown by. In fact, it’s been so busy that I’ve been a bit lax in getting my newsletter out. I apologize for that, and promise to do much better in the coming months. As our company continues to grow, unfortunately, so does the administrative work that needs to be done to maintain it … so much so, that I’ve had to bring in one of my team members as my own personal VA in addition to my project manager.
Our annual trip to Kelly’s Island was awesome, as usual. There’s nothing better than an entire week of peaceful fun in the sun with about 220 of your closest friends … and no work! Check out the view from our cabin … not bad.
I’m pleased to introduce Lisa Boyd, and Jill Chongva, our two newest associate VAs. Both Lisa and Jill are our in-house WordPress divas. If you need a custom blog or anything WordPress related, then give us a call. They both bring additional skills to the table with their knowledge of membership software (MemberGate and aMember), 1 Shopping Cart, E-Junkie and other eCommerce solutions. We are always in the process of assessing our client’s needs and trying to determine how to best serve our clients, and will endeavor to introduce new team members to meet those needs whenever necessary. We invite you to visit our Meet the Team page and take a look for yourself. We’ve still got a few more to add to the page, so keep coming back from time to time to see what’s new!
Calling all article writers … do you have an article that you believe would be of value and benefit to my readers? If you do, then send it to info@myfastype.com and if it’s a good fit, we’ll include your article in an upcoming issue of Speak Up and Make Money!
I hope you enjoy this issue of Speak Up and Make Money! As usual, I really am interested in your feedback and comments, so please let me know what you think, as well as what you like and/or dislike about the ezine. Do you have an event coming up that you’d like me to include in the next issue?
To your success!
Terry
