Facebook Marketing: Pages versus Groups

by Terry L. Green

Facebook has become one of the hottest trends in Internet marketing. It has a lot of potential as a marketing platform, if you use it carefully. Among the numerous opportunities to advertise, groups and pages stand out as two of the most effective and easiest methods of brand promotion.

Creating a Group is the original method of community-building marketing. It is still popular and with good reason. A Group can serve as a center for everything related to your brand. It encourages people to participate in discussions and share it with others. A Group also serves as a great way to communicate with your potential and current customers.

Facebook Groups Vs Facebook Pages – Which is Best?

By Mari Smith

Which is better: a Facebook Page or a Facebook Group? This is a question I get asked regularly and my short answer is you need BOTH a Group and at least one Page. Each serves different purposes:

Facebook Group

USES:

  • Special interests, causes, masterminds, study groups, beta testers, book reader groups (e.g. long before you publish your book, you could build up a tribe of people interested in your subject, give them sample chapters, get feedback on the content and cover, request testimonials, etc).

PROS:

  1. You can message ALL group members – up to 5000 members – and your message lands right in their inbox.
  2. All group activities go out into the feeds: wall posts, posted items, discussion threads, photos uploaded, and videos uploaded. This provides tremendous viral visibility, as I call it.
  3. Groups tend to be more informal and based around interests, so you can create better “stickiness” (members keep coming back) especially with regular email messages
  4. Anyone can start a Facebook group around any topic.
  5. You can take advantage of any of the three different types of Groups for different purposes: Open, Closed, and Secret.
  6. Groups are great ways to segment Facebook members and find your target demographic to expand your network.

CONS:

  1. Once you reach the 5000 emailing threshold, you’ll no longer be able to message everyone in your group.
  2. There’s minimal customization in groups and you can’t add apps.
  3. If you no longer want your group to be live, it can be tricky to delete.

New Ways To Procrastinate Plus 12 Tips for Toppling Procrastination

By Karen Susman

Karen SusmanWhile walking Cody Elvis and looking for inspiration for this Monday Mini, I listened to a CD by Jim Rohn on procrastination.
Procrastination has been an integral part of my game plan for as long as I can remember. I’ve found numerous ways to put off doing what I don’t want to do. I’ve phoned friends, rechecked my completed crossword puzzle and rearranged my rubber bands.

I was running out of creative ways to procrastinate when I discovered facebook, Linkedin, twitter and YouTube.

I won’t take all your time describing these internet phenoms. Just be aware of their addictive grasp. I tried a little YouTube. My YouTube use was just recreational at first. Before I knew it, I was watching travel videos, ukulele videos, comedy videos, and doggie videos.

Speak Up and Make Money! – March 2009

http://www.myfastype.com/ezine/March_2009

It’s been a while, but we’re back …

Happy St. Patrick’s Day everyone! I love St. Patrick’s Day. It always brings out the “fun” in everyone, plus … it means Spring is right around the corner. Hallelujah!

Wow … long time no newsletter. I can’t believe it’s been 4 months since the last one. Boy have we been busy here at Fastype; so busy that the first quarter has almost come and gone. But, never fear … we’re back again, with another great article and some more of my favorite resources that I can’t wait to share with you.

Everyone is talking about social media right now. It has, without a doubt, become the hottest, fastest and easiest  way to network, build relationships and market your business. It certainly is the most fun! Social media marketing is driven by websites and tools like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube and Ning (just to name a few). Unlike traditional marketing where advertising and selling are the main components; social media marketing is relationship marketing. The key is to market your business by building relationships – hence the term “relationship marketing.” While I have to admit that Twitter is probably my favorite social marketing tool (it’s unbelievable what you can accomplish with 140 characters), Facebook is right up there at the top of my list … and the topic for this issue’s article – Ten Ways to Promote Your Facebook Page, by Facebook expert Mari Smith. In this article, Mari will share 10 easy ways to promote your Facebook page.

Not using social media marketing in your business yet? Give us a call and we’ll show you how easy it is. We can get you set up on the “big three,” Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn and help you establish a game plan and strategy to start using social media marketing in your own business.

If you you’re already in the game, here’s where you can find me …

How to Create the Right Marketing Mindset

By Biana Babinsky

I have taught hundreds of business owners how to market online and get clients. What I always find interesting is that some people who have hired me to work with them didn’t need to be taught marketing. They knew a lot about marketing, what kind of marketing techniques were available and how to apply them.

What they actually needed help with was changing their marketing mindset. Many business owners feel that marketing has an aura of sleaziness around it. They feel that marketing is somehow dirty and an honorable business owner should not be engaged in it. They don’t feel that they should market – they feel that their customers should just find them and come to them.
